# X Android app search results scrolling back to top bug: causes and fixes

In X's Android app, while scrolling through the search results in the [Latest] tab, a bug occurs where the scroll position suddenly returns to the very top partway through.

In this article, I will introduce the cause and workarounds for the bug in X's Android app where the scroll position of search results returns to the top.

## Details of the bug

Based on my verification, the detailed conditions under which the bug currently occurs were as follows.

- Search for any keyword in X's Android app
- Switch to the [Latest] tab of the search results
- Scroll down through the search results in the [Latest] tab
- After a loading indicator is displayed at the bottom of the screen, the scroll position is reset and returns to the very top

In my environment where this bug occurs, I am using the X Beta app version 11.70.0-beta.1.

When I searched on X for "search scroll return", I found many reports of a similar bug, so it seems that the same bug is likely occurring even in the stable (non-beta) version of the app.

In addition to these issues, there are also issues with search results being incorrect and exact match searches not being possible on all clients.

## Cause

Since this bug does not occur on the web client of X, it is considered a bug in the Android app.

In particular, because the scroll position is reset immediately after the loading indicator is displayed at the bottom of the screen, it appears that the app is failing to preserve the state of the scroll position during the process of loading new posts and updating the screen.

## Workarounds

Because this is a bug in the Android app, a fundamental fix requires waiting for the bug to be corrected.

As a workaround until it is fixed, you can use the X Lite app or the web client.

Based on my confirmation, this bug does not occur in the X Lite app or the web version of X.

X Lite is a new Android app for X that has been rewritten using modern technologies and design.

X Lite is treated as being under development and some features are not yet implemented, but most basic functions are implemented.

You can switch to X Lite from the menu within X's Android app.

The web client of X can be used from a browser, but if the app opens when you try to open the web client, please refer to this article.

## Conclusion

I introduced the cause and workarounds for the bug in X's Android app where the scroll position of search results returns to the top.

This bug is caused by an issue in X's Android app, and a fundamental fix requires waiting for it to be corrected via an app update.

Until then, you can use the X Lite app or the web client as a workaround.
