# Has X's Expanded Bio been removed? What are the alternatives?

It appears that the Expanded Bio feature that was previously available on X (Twitter) has been removed. This became clear when the edit button for Expanded Bio was removed from the X web client.

## What is Expanded Bio?

X's Expanded Bio is a feature that allows users to provide more detailed information than can fit in the regular profile field.

When you set up an Expanded Bio, a [Show more] button is added to your profile, allowing a longer profile than usual to be displayed.

With Expanded Bio, you could set a long self-introduction that would not fit in the regular profile, and you could also use formatting such as headings, bold text, and italics.

It was also useful because you could add links, such as links to your portfolio or website.

For more details about the overview and how to use Expanded Bio, see this article.

To use Expanded Bio, it was previously necessary to subscribe to X's paid subscription service, X Premium, but later it became available to free accounts as well.

## Has Expanded Bio been discontinued?

Starting around February 2026, reports began to surge that Expanded Bio could no longer be displayed on X.

At the time, the [Show more] button was still displayed on the profiles of accounts that had already set up Expanded Bio, but clicking the button only showed a blank profile.

In addition, when opening the Expanded Bio editing screen, the content of the Expanded Bio that should have already been set was reset.

Because the [Show more] button and the Expanded Bio settings remained, I at the time speculated that the reason already configured Expanded Bios had disappeared or could not be viewed was a temporary issue with the data retrieval process.

[Reports of X expanded bios disappearing are increasing: possibly a data retrieval bug](https://roboin.io/article/en/2026/02/26/reports-surge-of-disappearing-expanded-bio-on-x-possible-data-retrieval-glitch/)

However, when I checked in mid-March, it became clear that the edit button for Expanded Bio had been removed from the X web client, and that the [Show more] button was no longer displayed on the profiles of accounts that had set up Expanded Bio.

Users can no longer write or display Expanded Bio, regardless of whether they have a free account or a paid account subscribed to X Premium.

For this reason, it is highly likely that the reason X's Expanded Bio can no longer be used is not a temporary glitch, but rather that the feature has been discontinued.

## What can replace Expanded Bio?

Because Expanded Bio has been removed, the content that was previously written there now needs to be moved elsewhere.

For basic profile information, it is recommended to make use of the regular profile field or a pinned post.

If you want to include more detailed background information or links, it may be a good idea to put links to external sites or portfolios in your profile.

## Is there a chance it will come back in the future?

Recently, X removed the setting in the iOS app for switching between dark mode and light mode, but later restored it in response to user backlash.

Therefore, if the reaction to the removal of Expanded Bio is large enough, there is a possibility that the feature could return, but it would be better not to expect too much.

It is best to assume that Expanded Bio will not return and move to alternative methods.

## Conclusion

It has become clear that the Expanded Bio feature, which allowed detailed profile descriptions on X, appears to have been removed.

On the X web client, both the button for viewing Expanded Bio and the button for editing it have been removed, and the feature can no longer be used regardless of whether the account is free or paid.

Alternatives to Expanded Bio include the regular profile field, pinned posts, and external sites or portfolios.
