On March 25, X (Twitter) Head of Product Nikita Bier announced that the mechanism for Creator Revenue Sharing would be revised starting Thursday local time.

However, immediately after this new policy was announced, it drew backlash from creators, and Elon Musk stated that "We will pause moving forward with this until further consideration."

## X announces revision of revenue sharing to prioritize creators' home countries and same-language regions

On March 25, X Head of Product Nikita Bier announced [that X's Creator Revenue Sharing mechanism would be revised starting Thursday local time](https://x.com/nikitabier/status/2036603028619534564).

Under the new Creator Revenue Sharing policy, greater weight would be given to impressions from a creator's home region when measuring post revenue, indicating an aim to encourage posts directed toward users in their own country, neighboring countries, and the same language region.

He explained that this revision is intended to curb behavior aimed at deliberately attracting attention from accounts in the United States and Japan, and to foster an environment in which diverse conversations can grow in each region.

On X, topics of global interest such as American politics attract significant attention, but he said that X's community would be enriched if there were posts that were relevant to people in every region around the world, rather than posts of that kind.

## After announcing the policy revision, it is suddenly put on hold

This policy shift triggered backlash from general users.

One user, who says they live in France, [explained that 43% of their audience is in the United States and that they post in English to reach a broader readership](https://x.com/dvorahfr/status/2036666985468043580).

While saying they understood the intention to crack down on problematic accounts, the user expressed concern that many accounts posting in English without malicious intent would be put at a disadvantage, and questioned whether this would go against X's previous policy of prioritizing videos and new high-quality content.

As a result, the planned revision to the Revenue Sharing rules that was scheduled to take effect on Thursday appears to have been put on hold for the time being, at least for now.

X's Creator Revenue Sharing is provided in various parts of the world to creators who meet the eligibility requirements, and revenue is calculated based on engagement from users subscribed to X's paid subscription service, X Premium.

In March 2026, X also indicated a policy that videos of armed conflict generated with AI would not be allowed to be monetized unless they were given an "Made with AI" label, and changes to the rules regarding revenue sharing have been coming in quick succession.
