# What is X’s \[Snooze Topics\]? How to use it and why you may not be able to snooze topics

Sometimes your X For you timeline surfaces topics you do not want to see. In those cases, the [Snooze Topics] feature can help by preventing specific topics from appearing for 24 hours.

This article explains how to use Snooze Topics and why it may not be available.

## What is X’s [Snooze Topics]?

Snooze Topics is a feature that temporarily reduces posts about specific topics in X’s For you timeline.

Instead of muting accounts or keywords, this feature lets you adjust recommendations by topic such as “Politics,” “Sports,” or “AI” for 24 hours.

At the time of writing, this feature is available in the iOS app and on the web, and only users subscribed to X’s paid subscription service, X Premium, can use it.

## How to use [Snooze Topics]

You can reduce the visibility of posts about specific topics by opening the [Snooze Topics] settings with the following steps.

<Steps>
  Open X in an environment that supports [Snooze Topics]

  Open the [For you] timeline

  Click the [For you] label to open the [Snooze Topics] settings

  Turn on the toggle switch for the topic you want to snooze

  :::caution
  Do not turn on the topics you want to see and turn off the ones you do not. Instead, turn on the toggle switch for the topics you want to snooze (that is, the ones you do not want to see).

  Topics with the toggle switch turned off will continue to appear.
  :::

  Topics with the toggle switch turned on will no longer be shown for 24 hours
</Steps>

## Why is [Snooze Topics] not showing up, or why can’t I snooze topics?

Possible reasons you may not be able to snooze topics include the following.

### 1. You are using a free account

At the time of writing, Snooze Topics is only available to users subscribed to X Premium.

You cannot snooze topics on an unpaid account.

### 2. You are using the Android app

At the time of writing, Snooze Topics is only available in the iOS app and on the web, and is not available in the Android app.

### 3. You are viewing the [Following] tab

To display the Snooze Topics menu, you need to be on the [For you] tab, not the [Following] tab, and click the [For you] text.

If you click the [Following] text while on the [Following] tab, you will see settings for how the Following timeline is displayed instead of the Snooze Topics menu.

### 4. The app or web interface is still outdated

If you are using a paid account and accessing X through the iOS app or the web client but still cannot snooze topics, the version of the app you are using may be outdated.

Try updating the app to the latest version or reloading the web page.

## Conclusion

This article covered Snooze Topics, which lets you hide specific topics from X’s For you timeline for 24 hours.

At the moment, it is only available to some users, but it is a useful feature when you want to step back from certain subjects.
