Since around May 17, reports have been increasing that users cannot send posts on X.

There are many possible reasons why posts may fail on X, but in the cases currently being reported, turning off Wi-Fi and switching to mobile data may allow posts to go through.

Reports are increasing that posts cannot be sent over Wi-Fi

Some users are currently reporting that they cannot post on X while connected to Wi-Fi.

In some cases, users appear to be unable to send original posts but are still able to reply.

These reports have increased especially since around May 17.

X has not made an official announcement about this issue. However, based on the timing and behavior, it may be related to X lowering the daily posting limit for some users.

X previously set a daily limit of 2,400 posts, but starting May 15, it lowered this limit for unverified accounts to 50 original posts per day and 200 replies per day.

Because the reply limit is higher, this matches the behavior in which users cannot publish original posts but can still reply.

That said, there appear to be cases where users cannot post even though they clearly have not posted anywhere near 50 times.

This is only speculation, but given this behavior and the fact that posts can be sent after switching to mobile data, there may be some kind of bug in how the post limit is being measured.

The following article explains the lowered post limit and how to work around it if you need to publish more posts.

Try turning off Wi-Fi

There are many possible reasons why you may be unable to publish posts on X. First, try turning off Wi-Fi and posting over mobile data to check whether you are affected by the issue currently occurring.

If you cannot send an original post on X, first turn off Wi-Fi on your smartphone and try posting over mobile data.

  1. Open your smartphone’s settings

  2. Turn off Wi-Fi and switch to mobile data

  3. Open X and check whether you can publish a post

If this fixes the issue, you may be affected by the currently occurring bug.

Until the issue is resolved, try posting from a computer or from a smartphone switched to mobile data.

If switching to mobile data does not fix the issue, another cause is likely, so switch back to Wi-Fi.

Note that even if switching to mobile data fixes the issue, mobile data often incurs charges based on data usage. For that reason, I recommend staying connected to Wi-Fi except when publishing posts.

In some cases, deleting drafts may let you post

Another growing case is when the same content is saved in the drafts multiple times in large quantities, and deleting those drafts allows you to post.

If turning off Wi-Fi does not fix the issue, deleting your drafts on the web version of X may allow you to post.

This is explained in detail in this article, so please refer to it.

What to do if turning off Wi-Fi does not fix the issue

If you still cannot publish posts after turning off Wi-Fi, there may be another cause.

General troubleshooting steps for cases where you cannot publish posts include the following.

Check whether you have reached the posting limit

As mentioned above, unverified accounts can publish only up to 50 original posts and 200 replies per day.

An unverified account refers to an account that does not have a badge, such as a blue or gold badge.

Unverified accounts include free accounts as well as accounts on the Basic plan of X Premium.

If these conditions apply to you, check whether you have reached the posting limit.

If you have reached the limit, wait one day or consider subscribing to the Premium plan or a higher tier of X Premium.

Restart the X app or your smartphone

If you cannot publish posts even though you have not reached the posting limit, restarting the X app or your smartphone may fix the issue.

If a newer version of the X app is available, you should also try updating it.

Wait a while before posting again

A temporary X outage may also prevent posts from being published.

In particular, if you search for terms such as “X outage” and see many posts saying that an outage is occurring, X may be experiencing an outage.

If there is an outage, do not keep trying to post. Wait a while before posting again.

Try posting from the browser

If none of the above applies and you cannot post from the X app, try posting from a browser such as Chrome, Safari, or Edge.

If you can post from the web, the app may have a bug.

If the X app opens automatically and prevents you from opening the web client, refer to the following article.

Conclusion

Since around May 17, reports have been increasing that users cannot send posts on X.

In the cases currently standing out, turning off Wi-Fi and switching to mobile data may allow posts to go through.
