Is X preventing your posts? How to delete accumulated unsent drafts

X is rolling out a change that lowers the daily post limit for unverified accounts to 50 posts per day, but more users are reporting cases where they become unable to post after only a few posts, even though they should not have reached the 50-post daily limit.

In these cases, posts with the same content that failed to send may have been saved in large numbers as drafts.

This article explains the details of this issue and what to do if it happens to you.

Unsent posts may have been saved as duplicated drafts

X recently lowered the posting limit for unverified accounts to 50 original posts per day and 200 replies per day.

Verified accounts are accounts with a blue or gold badge, while unverified accounts are accounts without a badge.

This means that free accounts that are not paying for X, as well as accounts subscribed to the Basic plan of X Premium, can post only 50 posts per day.

However, many users on X are reporting cases where they become unable to post even though they clearly have not posted 50 times.

In such cases, the cause may be that posts that failed to send have been saved repeatedly as drafts under [Unsent posts].

Try checking whether a large number of drafts with the same content have been saved in the web version of X.

How to check and delete drafts on the web version of X

You can check drafts from the X web client. If a large number of duplicated drafts have been saved, that may be why you can no longer publish posts.

Follow the steps below to check your drafts and see whether a large number of them have been saved.

  1. Open the X web client

  2. Click [Drafts] in the upper-right corner of the post composer

  3. Check the [Unsent posts] tab

If a large number of drafts are saved in this [Unsent posts] tab, that may be preventing you from posting.

  3. Click the checkbox to the left of each draft you want to delete, or click [Select all] in the lower-left corner to select all drafts

  4. Click [Delete] in the lower-right corner

  5. After deleting the large number of saved drafts, wait a few hours to about a day, and you should be able to post again

In some cases, turning off Wi-Fi may let you post

Another increasingly common case is that users cannot post while connected to Wi-Fi, but can post after switching to mobile data.

If you check your drafts on the web version of X and do not find a large number of saved drafts, you may be able to post by turning off Wi-Fi.

This issue is explained in more detail in the following article.

Things to check if you still cannot post

If you still cannot post after deleting unsent posts or switching from Wi-Fi to mobile data, there may be another cause.

Check whether you have reached the posting limit

As mentioned above, unverified accounts can post only 50 original posts per day and 200 replies per day.

An unverified account means an account that does not have a badge, such as a blue or gold badge.

Unverified accounts include free accounts as well as accounts on the Basic plan of X Premium.

If these conditions apply to your account, check whether you have reached the posting limit.

If you have reached the posting limit, wait one day or consider subscribing to the Premium plan of X Premium or higher.

Restart the X app or your smartphone

If you cannot publish posts even though you have not reached the posting limit, restarting the X app or your smartphone may fix the issue.

If a new version of the X app is available, it is also worth trying an update.

Try posting again after some time

A temporary outage on X may also prevent you from publishing posts.

In particular, if you search for terms such as “X outage” and see many posts saying that an outage is occurring, X may be experiencing an issue.

If there is an outage, do not keep trying to post repeatedly. Wait for a while before posting again.

Try posting from the browser version

If none of the above applies and you cannot post from the X app, try posting from a browser such as Chrome, Safari, or Edge.

If you can post from the browser version, the issue may be caused by a bug in the app.

If the X app opens automatically and you cannot open the browser version, refer to this article.

Conclusion

If you cannot post on X even though you have not posted 50 times in a day, posts that failed to send may have been saved in large numbers under [Unsent posts].

Opening the post composer in the web version of X, deleting the duplicated drafts, and then waiting a little while before posting again may fix the issue.
