X shifts API to Pay-Per-Use; free plan effectively discontinued

サムネイル

X's (formerly Twitter) official developer account announced that X API has officially shifted to Pay-Per-Use pricing.

While the API will continue to be provided for free to for-good public utility apps, active users of other existing free plans will be moved to Pay-Per-Use pricing with a one-time $10 voucher.

Until now, X API used a flat-rate model, so smaller projects may be able to use the API more cheaply after the shift to Pay-Per-Use, but if you were using the free tier, you will need to pay fees except in some cases.

Because free access to the API under the revised pricing structure is limited to for-good public utility apps, the free plan is effectively discontinued for typical use cases.

All users who use X API on a Pay-Per-Use basis can use the new Console, Playground, XDK, and MCP.

The Basic and Pro X API plans will remain available, structured so that users can opt in to Pay-Per-Use pricing.

X says it plans to announce a major update soon that will be limited to Pay-Per-Use users.

I've been using JavaScript more than my native language since birth. I am nowhere and everywhere on the internet.

I build web apps and browser extensions in TypeScript as a web frontend programmer. I released Shadowban Scanner, a tool that detects shadowbans on X, and Restore Link Card, a tool that brings back link cards. Media outlets in Japan and abroad covered both tools. For iGEM 2023, I built the Wiki for Team Japan-United and helped the team win the Grand Prize. On my blog, I cover news about X and social media, test and troubleshoot bugs, and share frontend development insights.
