X updates its in-app notification design
Benji Taylor, who leads design at X, wrote on his X account that the team is rolling out a new simplified in-app notification style on X.
Taylor said the team made the design change to improve readability, simplicity, and visual consistency across the product.
In-app notifications are temporary banners that appear at the top of the app when you receive a reply, like, repost, or similar notification while you have the X app open.
For example, the current in-app notification places the account icon and the like icon at almost the same size on the left edge of the banner. The new design makes the account icon larger and the like icon smaller. It also increases the corner radius and changes the background color from light blue to translucent black.
Taylor described the update as “one of several small but meaningful changes” and said, “we'll continue to improve all the tiny things,” suggesting that the team will keep polishing the product with attention to detail.
Taylor did not say which OS will receive the new in-app notifications. However, alex, who also works on design at X, said that he had “shipped his first code on iOS,” which suggests that the change targets the iOS app.

My analysis
X has been revisiting smaller UI details in recent months, alongside major new features.
The company has also said it plans to take time to support Liquid Glass on iOS, which shows its focus on design.

Users can expect X to keep improving UI details such as text readability and visibility inside the app.

I've been using JavaScript more than my native language since birth. I am nowhere and everywhere on the internet.
I build web apps and browser extensions in TypeScript as a web frontend programmer. I released Shadowban Scanner, a tool that detects shadowbans on X, and Restore Link Card, a tool that brings back link cards. Media outlets in Japan and abroad covered both tools. For iGEM 2023, I built the Wiki for Team Japan-United and helped the team win the Grand Prize. On my blog, I cover news about X and social media, test and troubleshoot bugs, and share frontend development insights.
