X adds scheduled posts to its app

X has offered scheduled posts on the web for years. With scheduled posts, you can choose a date and time in advance for X to publish a post. The feature helps when you need to publish something at a specific time, such as an announcement.

X had not brought the feature to its mobile apps, so anyone who wanted to create a scheduled post from a smartphone had to use the web version.

Taylor did not say which operating systems would receive the feature. In my testing, I found it in the iOS app but not in the Android app.

My analysis

In September 2023, Elon Musk replied "Ok" to a post asking X to let users create scheduled posts from the app. Three years later, X has brought the feature to its mobile app.

In my testing, the latest Android app did not include scheduled posts.

Most users may have little need to schedule everyday posts, but I use scheduled posts for announcements when I publish a new article. Publishers often use scheduled posts for announcements like these, and the lack of support in the mobile app has forced users to rely on the web version.

X has taken a major step by letting users create scheduled posts from the app, even though iOS users have access to the feature and Android users do not.

Taylor has said X wants to bring its platforms closer to parity. During his tenure as head of product, Nikita Bier also said X planned to bring new features to Android at the same time as iOS or within a similar release window. He also said X planned to release some new features on Android before iOS.

At the time of writing, X continues to bring new features to iOS before adding them to Android. In February, Bier said X's core product team had around 30 people, which suggests the company has limited development resources. As an Android user, I hope X does not keep Android users waiting for scheduled posts.
