Replies fail to send in X for Android

A bug in the X app for Android is preventing users from replying to posts.

In the standard X app for Android, you will not see an error popup or dialog. The reply fails without warning, and X saves it as a draft.

When you open the drafts screen, you will find the reply you tried to send with a “Failed to send” error.

Replies also fail when you enable “New X Android” from the sidebar menu.

In New X Android, you will see a “Failed to send post” error message at the top of the screen when you try to send a reply.

New X Android does not save the failed reply as a draft, so you lose it.

How to fix replies that will not send

You can work around the reply bug in X for Android in either of these ways:

I tested both methods on my device and confirmed that they work.

  • Reinstall the app
  • Use X Lite or the browser version

Reinstall the app

On my device, I could send replies again after uninstalling and reinstalling the X app for Android.

You will need to sign back in to your X account after reinstalling the app.

Before uninstalling the app, check your account username, email address, and password. You may lose access to your account if you do not know your login details.

Uninstalling the app also deletes your saved drafts, so copy anything you need into a notes app first.

Use X Lite or the browser version

I could send replies without problems in X Lite, the official app that X rebuilt for Android. Use X Lite to reply if you have access to it.

X Lite remains under development and does not include every feature from the standard X app for Android. It already supports most features you need for daily use. I use X Lite as my main app and rarely open the standard X app for Android.

You can also use the browser version of X if you do not have access to X Lite.

Replies work in the browser version. Use it if you cannot access X Lite and do not want to reinstall the app.

Refer to the following article if links keep opening the app and prevent you from using the browser version.

My analysis

Users also could not send replies in X for Android around May 31 and June 1, 2026 (JST). X fixed that bug within a short period, but a similar issue returned after only 10 days.

In late May, New X Android users encountered another bug: the Media tab disappeared from profiles, leaving only the Videos tab.

X for Android users have encountered several noticeable bugs in recent weeks.

I have seen fewer major bugs in X Lite, which I use as my main app. Consider switching to X Lite if you have access.

I do not know why X Lite has fewer bugs. X may be assigning more development resources to X Lite than to the standard X app for Android.

  • Device: Google Pixel 8
  • Apps: X for Android version 11.99.0-beta.0 and X Lite version 11.98.4-release.01

Verification details

I confirmed that replies fail in X for Android whether New X Android is enabled or disabled. I also confirmed that replies work in X Lite and the browser version of X, and that reinstalling X for Android restores the ability to reply.
